From August 1 till August 5, 2009 UNAIDS is hosting in Saint Petersburg a seminar "Monitoring and Evaluation of Programmes and Projects in Response to HIV/AIDS"
Representatives of governmental medical and non-profit organizations take part in the seminar held in collaboration with an independent consulting group “Development of Public Health Care” (PhD Consulting). A competition for participation in this seminar was announced in May. Over 90 applications were submitted.
Round table Youth a Source of Change
On July 1, 2009, a round table to sum up outcomes of the project “Scaling up HIV/AIDS Prevention Programmes Among Youth in the Russian Federation” was held in Moscow. The project had been implemented in six countries since 2006 by UNFPA, UNESCO, UNICEF under UNAIDS overall leadership.

Ęazan.May, 15, 2009. A unique international project Stars Against AIDS will be launched with the support of the Government of Tatarstan Republic at the Kazan National Cultural Centre on May 15, on the eve of International Memorial Day of AIDS Victims.
UNAIDS seminar “HIV Epidemiological Surveillance Among Intravenous Drug Users and Other Vulnerable Groups”
United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) seminar was held on April the 15th in the framework of “HIV Epidemiological Surveillance and Estimation of Influence of Antiretroviral Therapy on HIV Epidemiological Situation in Russia. Improvement of HIV Epidemiological Surveillance, April 14-16, 2009” conference. It was chaired by Dr. M. V. Semenchenko (UNAIDS) and Dr. N. N. Nosov (Privolzhskiy Regional AIDS Centre of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation)
HIV/AIDS M&E Workshop for the civil society in Orenburg Sub-region of Russia
Sub-region have taken part in the 2-days workshop on M&E of HIV/AIDS responses by the civil society and enforcement of their role in the HIV/AIDS M&E work, and a one-day coordination meeting to build a forum of NGOs working in the field of HIV/AIDS response in the Sub-region and develop collaboration plan with each other and the government partners.
Highlighting sexual violence on International Women’s Day
"Women and men: United to end violence against women" is the theme of this year’s International Women's Day which is observed at the United Nations on 5 March 2009 and celebrated internationally on 8 March.

Gender equality must become part of our DNA – at the core of all of our actions. This will require a social revolution. Addressing gender inequality as a human right and development imperative constitutes a main plank of this social revolution.
Recipe for Success: Prevention
On February 25-26 an all-Russia Consultation on Universal Access to HIV Prevention in the Russian Federation. Progress, Gaps and Next Steps was held in Moscow. It was organized by the Russian Ministry of Health and Social Development, Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-being, Federal AIDS Centre and UNAIDS.
