24 April 2007
This workshop brought together Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) specialists from a wide range of government and non-governmental organizations as well as international organizations actively involved in AIDS prevention, treatment and care programs in St. Petersburg. More than 20 experts were trained on overall M&E principles, concepts and instruments and actively participated in the development of a draft action plan aimed at strengthening M&E at the city level. Several high-level representatives of the St. Petersburg City Administration, including the Vice-Governor for Social Affairs, Lyudmilla Andreyevna Kostkyna, stressed the importance of the workshop as it paved the way for enhanced coordination of donor- and publically funded programs in St. Petersburg. "Better information on the epidemic and the systematic monitoring and evaluation of the effectivess of our joint interventions will lead to improved planning and management in our city", stated Kostkyna. She also expressed her support to the idea of establishing a local M&E expert group and confirmed the commitment of the city administration to lead efforts towards improved coordination.
