Theatrical premier at the photo exhibition “Stars against AIDS” in Rostov-on-Don
The Rostov-on- Don youth social theatre Peer- to- Peer has created the theatrical project “What do People Keep Silent about?”. On October 22, 2008, it premiered in the Donskoy State Public Library, where the exhibition UNAIDS “Stars against AIDS” is held. The theatrical project took place with the support of the international network, Y –Peer, – a network of youth initiatives that works according to the peer to peer principle.
“What do People Keep Silent about?” is the story of three young girls who have to survive a shocking experience. They never thought that they would have to personally come into contact with the HIV epidemic. But they do, and the heroines undergo feelings of hopelessness, and emptiness. They must make their lives fulfilled and meaningful in the new circumstances.
How they will manage? What could they have done differently? How will they build relationships with their relatives and how will their relatives support them – that is what this play, “What do People Keep Silent about?”, is about.
In this play there is no director and there is no defined script. Everything is improvised. Actors build their roles on the stories they learned after being introduced to people living with HIV and the cases described in the press. Five people participated in the play - students and senior classmen in Rostov-on-Don.
Among the spectators there were also students and senior classmen, volunteers from the NGO “Young Doctors of Don”, and the visitors of library. After the play, a discussion was held in which the head physician of the Center for Prevention and Control of AIDS and Infectious Diseases in the Rostov region, E. V. Beketova participated.
Main sense was that the play forced people to think about the problem of HIV- infection, about the people living with HIV, and about a healthy way of life.
