Round Table "Right of the HIV Positive Woman to Motherhood" in Naberezhnye Chelny

A round table “Right of the HIV Positive Woman to Motherhood” in the framework of UNAIDS photo project “Stars Against AIDS” was held in Naberezhnye Chelny on June 4, 2009.

It was opened by the Chief Physician a. i. of the branch AIDS and Infectious Diseases Centre Y. G. Yudenkov. Staff member of “My World” NGO project aimed at improving life standards of women living with HIV in Naberezhnye Chelny R. R. Taipova started a discussion on women’s rights. Her speech was called “To Put an End to Manifestations of Gender Violence”. Medical psychologist V. A. Fahrazieva continued the topic focusing on psychological features of HIV positive pregnant women.

The discussion touched upon the issues of drug use by women and violation of rights of HIV positive women. Manager of an outreach harm reduction project Y. K. Gorbunova and Legal Adviser of AIDS Centre E. I. Mukhamadieva covered these topics.

Staff of Naberezhnye Chelny Municipal Health Care Bureau, prenatal clinics affiliated with out-patient clinics #2, 3, 4, 6, a charitable fund for education development, health care and HIV/AIDS prevention (Timur Islamov’s Fund), as well as journalists took part in the work of the round table.

The photo exhibition will be open to residents of Naberezhnye Chelny in youth centre “Nur” till June 10, 2009.
